Southern Indiana Wedding : Danielle + Derick

Danielle + Derick 3.16.2018

I adore Danielle! She was one of my first Herron / IUPUI interns a few years back. I am thankful that I to continue working with her off and on. She has such a beaming smile, is so kind, and an  awesome person. It was such an honor to photograph her wedding to Derick on March 16th, 2018. We lucked out weather wise, too!

The couple started their celebrations in Columbus, Indiana. They got ready at the Hotel Indigo and had their first look downtown. We went to a few Columbus, Indiana locations for bridal party portraits. After that, we headed to North Vernon, Danielle’s home town, for their ceremony and reception.

Thank you Danielle– I continue to be grateful to have you in my life!

Bride + Groom Q+A

Overview of the day?
Our wedding day was absolutely perfect! We got to celebrate the entire day with everyone we love. We worked so hard to plan so many details, and luckily it all came together; but honestly, I don’t think either of us would have noticed if it hadn’t. We were focused on starting our lives together and enjoying every moment of our day!

How did you two meet?
We actually met online in December 2015! Derick had just moved to Indiana from Texas with the Army a few months prior. We met for our first date which consisted of dinner , ice skating, then coffee on the circle in Indy. *We LOVED recreating this for our engagement photos- Thanks to Stacy 😉
Derick was actually traveling out of town for the holidays the following week, so he asked for a second date right away. We’ve been inseperable ever since.

How did he propose?
Derick proposed on a Sunday morning at home. We were still in bed and started talking about our future and where we thought we would be in 3 months, 6 months, a year, etc. He asked me when I thought he would ask me to marry him, and I replied that I could see it happening within the next year. He asked me with a huge smile on his face “What if I asked you today?” I didn’t believe him, I couldn’t wrap my head around it. I still didn’t believe him when he pulled out a ring box and got down on one knee. He still likes to bring that up when anyone asks, haha!

Favorite memory from your wedding day?
My favorite moment from our entire day would be saying our vows. I was unsure if everyone could hear us from the pastor’s mic, but my voice felt so big and yet I’m sure it was just a whisper. As Derick was speaking, I could feel my lip begin to quiver. When it was my turn, he knew I was going to struggle through a few tears and he just kept rubbing his thumb over my hand and couched me quietly through it.

Funniest memory?
Just by looking through the blogged images you can see that we laugh together ALL. THE. TIME. I’m not sure I could narrow down the entire day to just one funny moment. However, the most memorable would be that the best man was unfortunately unable to make it to our wedding as he had training across the country (he’s in the Army as well). We actually had his parents attend and they FaceTime’d him to during the ceremony (This was who Derick was giving a thumbs up to after we were pronounced husband and wife) and then again later to take photos in the Photo Booth together.
