Niki + Paul’s Indiana Fall Franklin Hall IU Bloomington Wedding

Every time I would chat with Niki, I would have a huge smile on my face. Niki, Paul and their families were so upbeat, warm, welcoming and truly a pleasure to work with!  They started their wedding day getting ready at the IU memorial hall hotel. Being it was an away football weekend, that meant there were 10 other things on campus that weekend. Including a color run, swim meet, as well as the infamous hilly hundred. None of that affected their day as these two were incredibly easy going. I could go on and on but the photos speak louder than my words. Niki and Paul, it was a pleasure! Thank you in having us be a part of your celebrations. We couldn’t ask for a better couple to work with!!

Q+A with Niki and Paul:
The wedding day started the night before with a sleepover in the antique suite at IMU with myself and some of the bridesmaids. The hair and makeup artists came to the antique suite to help beautify the bridal party. The hair was done by Dan Beauregard and the staff at Pendelbury studio. The make up was done by Erica Foit.

I grew up in Bloomington and knew I wanted a fall wedding on campus. We looked into away football weekends since Paul and I spend most weekends tailgating and cheering on the Hoosiers at Memorial Stadium. Paul is a professor at IU in the Media School and jumped for joy at the idea of having the wedding reception at Presidents Hall. I loved the idea of having the wedding party entrance in the new atrium in Franklin Hall. We really feel lucky to have one of the most beautiful fall days and leaves having a late peak this year.
I knew I wanted fall colors but with an antique twist. My dress was a champagne color and I wanted creams and off whites for a base color to match the wedding dress. When we found the black cherry bridesmaid dresses at BHLDN I knew our colors and decor. I loved the gold detail with cranberry and the non traditional colors of fall. Cathy Teeters was amazing when coming up with the center pieces and using the lanterns I found over the summer in Denver. We wanted to incorporate both Paul’s love of the west coast beach and my love of the gulf beach in our unity ceremony. Our minister came up with an amazing rock unity ceremony where sand from our favorite beaches was the base of our marriage.
The wedding day was perfect! Everything from the weather to the Cubs going to the World Series made our day extra special. I feel like the weather gave our out of town guests from Southern California a perfect taste of the Midwest. I forgot my veil the morning of the wedding and had to call one of the ushers to run home and bring it to the bridal suite. He was a lifesaver! Thank you Brad!!
I would say one of my favorite moments was the time Paul and I spent taking pictures at the beginning of the reception. It felt “just right” or “complete” spending time smiling and posing (many that you taught us) with my husband. Another favorite moment would be the last dance of the night….it involved air guitar and a lot of singing along to Journey with Paul and some of our favorite people in the world. A favorite moment came during the wedding ceremony when Jimmy Moore the minister gave us a chance to look out into the audience and see all those people there to support us and bless our marriage. It was a magical moment for both Paul and I.
The funniest moment would be after leaving the church with the birdseed! Paul and I loved seeing everyone have blast throwing the bird seed! It was hilarious picking the birdseed out of each others hair throughout the wedding day and into the night.
Paul and I worked on our first dance song forever! We would pick a song and change our mind the next moment. We went with a song that reminded both of us of our families, Eric Clapton Wonderful Tonight. Both of us had memories of our parents singing or dancing to this song at one point or another. It was perfect!
The gown: Last winter break my grandmother, mom, my MOH and a bridesmaid and I went to Chicago for a girls trip to buy the wedding dress. We found the dress at BHDLN in Chicago! The designer was Eddy K and the dress was the Perla. I knew it was the dress the minute I put it on…I felt like Champagne Barbie.
Ashley Fleming at Little White Dress Wedding planning. Ashley was a lifesaver and made everything go so smooth on our wedding day. It was a breath of fresh air to have her help with everything.
